Fresh Paint Glass Slipper

 purchased by me

A few times a year I'll swear off buying more matte polish.  I remind myself that I have maybe nine different matte topcoats of varying matteness, so I can make any polish matte, and blahblahblah...  Then some brand or other will put out new matte shades, and my eyebrows go up.  I can't help it.  This time around, that collection came from one of 5 Below's store brands, Fresh Paint.  There are four soft, summery shades in their new Semi Matte collection.  Blue polish always lures me in, and Glass Slipper had to be mine.

Glass Slipper is sky blue with faint blue shimmer, and dries to a soft matte finish.

Holy wow!  I feel a little blindsided by Glass Slipper.  Never thought I'd love it as much as I do!  It's on the sheer side, but that's a feature, not a bug.  Between the hint of sheerness and the satiny finish, there's something frosted or milky about it, like beach glass.  Where was this last year during the whole "bright pastel" trend?  It would have fit right in, and surpassed most of what was released then.  Formula-wise, mattes can be troublesome (looking at you, Essie Coat Couture), but Glass Slipper goes on pretty easily.  Maybe that's part of being less matte than most.  You still have to be careful not to go over the same spot twice in one coat, but that was the only issue I had.  This is three coats.

With a glossy topcoat, the subtle shimmer becomes a little more obvious and the milk glass look intensifies.

Even all glossed up, the shimmer is shy and secretive.

Bottom line: So summery!  Good formula for a matte, and shimmer that's shy without being flat.

Man...I wish they'd done a green and purple too!
