Colorful Chaos

So it is possible to go wrong with the OPI Color Paints after all.  Presenting the first Fail Nail of my Some Weird Sin days...

Ok, it's not awful, but it is confusing.  This was a full manicure, not just a four finger thing.  The entire time I wore it, I kept waffling on whether I liked it.  I showed Zeus.  All he said was "No."  I showed my buddy McGee and she called it "interesting".

How'd I do...whatever the fuck this is?  It's water spotting, done with distilled water and a spray bottle of rubbing alcohol.  I used Pen & Pink, Turquoise Aesthetic, and Purple Perspective over Silver Canvas.  I think the spray from this bottle is too fine because the spots aren't all that big.  I miiiight try it again, but probably just as an accent.

Emily Got Married!

When my cousin Emily invited me to her wedding, I was a little surprised.  I hadn't seen her since we were nine!  It was a good surprise though.  Her wedding was the perfect chance to see her and the rest of the family again.  I instantly started thinking about what my mani would be.  It dawned on me when I ran through a mental list of what I know about Emily and Alex.  She loves photography and he's an avid cyclist.  Cameras and bikes!

Meet My Clicky Sticks!

A few months ago I decided I wanted swatch sticks of all of my creams, crellies, and jellies.  Took me a while, but I'm so happy to have them!  Now any time I need to figure out what polish to wear with an outfit or use in nail art, I can just grab these.

...but why keep them to myself?  I'm listing them all on here, as a massive comparison.

Sinful Colors Bombay Nights

 purchased by me

You know how Sinful Colors used to do the same shades with different display names at Walgreens and Rite Aid?  This year they seem to be switching that around.  There are two different Bombay Nights displays, with slightly different selections in them.  Both have the new-ish Copper Pot, which was originally in the big corner display at Walgreens over the spring.  That thing never turned up around here, so I was really happy to finally get a bottle!  Walgreens also got a brand new shade called Maroon Fine.  (And the 99¢ sale is still on through tomorrow, 6/20.)  Rite Aid got Ice Blue, which isn't new, but doesn't turn up often.  Wegmans has the Rite Aid version too, plus some of these are on an endcap at Target.  There's a nice assortment of rich, warm shades and bold blues in all of these displays.  Hit the jump for a full list of the shades in both versions of the shelf display, swatches, reviews, and all of that.

Walgreens 99¢ Sinful Colors SPAAAM

Who'd have thought there'd be another one so soon?  Just a month after the last sale, Sinful Colors is 99¢ at Walgreens now through 6/20.  My sale spam posts didn't end with PGS...I just didn't expect to do one here so soon!  Luckily, I've got new swatches to add, and a couple of Street Fusion posts in the works.  I also found the BIG summer endcap.  Usually I don't find those until the week after the sale.  Extra happy about that!

Sunday Shopper - 6/14 through 6/20

No surprise here, but I spend a lot of time in drugstores.  I also go to plenty of them.  I'm lucky to live in a region that's very shoppy.  Stores around here get pretty much every collection, so I'm always taking photos of new displays.  They used to just wind up on my Instagram.  Since the new blog is all me and more focused on drugstore brands, I figured I might as well put them up here too.  While you're here, I'll also highlight any really good sales or offers I find.

Sunday Shopper will be weekly-ish, though there probably won't be one next week.  CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens are my obvious stops, but I'll also post occasional sightings from Wegmans (a Mid-Atlantic regional supermarket) and Target.  You won't see Wal-mart stuff here, because I don't shop there.  Expect these posts to feature mostly polish, like the rest of the blog.

The HOT Sales:

Walgreens - 99¢ Sinful Colors!! [last page] I'll post updated spam tomorrow, but here's a recent one.

CVS - Spend $10 on Sally Hansen get $5 ExtraBucks!! It's limit 3, so you can get up to $15 back when you spend $30. Wow!

The Newest Stuff:

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Instant Attitude (LE)

Shade Names:
Tag, Ur It * Street Cred * Color Me Good * Vandal Eyes * Quick Brick * City Slicker

My Blogging Idols

 purchased by me

Call me excessively sentimental, but I've got one more 'origin story' post before the anniversary/closing/launching festivities draw to a close.  Like all of my previous posts along these lines, it involves magnetic polish.  What can I say?  It was spring 2012.  Anyone who's used them knows that magnetics are awesome, but frustrating.  Agitation lead me to google "magnetic polish application tips" or something like that...and that search changed my life.  I found Scrangie because of this post.  I was in total awe of everything about her blog and went looking for more.  The Polishaholic entranced me every bit as much.  Both had the best nail photos I'd ever seen.  Somewhere in reading dozens of their posts, I decided I wanted to try blogging too.  I've quietly(-ish) fangirled both of them over the years, but only just got around to wearing two of their polishes this week.

OPI Color Paints Water Marble

 purchased by me

Back in the oh so long ago PGS days I posted some layered stamping I did with the new OPI Color Paints, but this water marble was the first thing I'd done with them.  If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen some crappy phone pics of this (including my tie-dyed finger) already...five weeks ago!  Yikes.  This is my first successful dipped water marble (after a mess and a 'cheat'), so it's not perfect.  I'm still thrilled with how it turned out!  I liked it so much that I did it as a full mani.

Hello Again

 purchased by me

Welcome to Some Weird Sin!  Same old blogger, different blog.  Kinda.  I plan to be more "me" here than I usually was on PGS.  It also feels really good to start a blog when I actually know what I'm doing.  It's like moving out of mom's house and leaving all of the embarrassing baby pictures behind.

Anyone reading this today probably has at least a little idea of who I am, but if you've somehow stumbled upon it without having read PGS, here's some background info.  My name's Amanda, and I'm 32.  I live in a rural pocket of the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania suburbs.  I'm part of a very "modern" household.  My partner, "The Beard", and I live with "Zeus" and his fiance, "Player 4".  There's only an eleven year gap between the oldest and youngest of us, but The Beard and I have become stand-in parents to Zeus.  [The whole story would only add to what's already going to be a very long post.]  We've got a cat, dog, and snake too.

If you're wondering, Some Weird Sin is named for an Iggy Pop song from an album I've loved since I was 15.  The song's got nothing to do with cosmetics at all, but I was listening to it one night while trying to come up with a name and something clicked.  I know people who give polish buying up for lent.  We all feel the rush, and often the guilt, when we haul.  Maybe it is some dumb, weird sin...just to relax with.  There are worse vices, for sure.

So what happened to PGS?  Don't worry, Nichole and I really are still friends.  We'd both wanted things to change for a while, and deciding to get a blog divorce only strengthened our friendship.  I mentioned stylistic differences, but there is more to it than just that.  Nichole has reasons of her own, but for me it was hitting a point where blogging was taking over my life.  The first polish I'm posting on here is oddly fitting for what I want to tell you guys.

Zoya Veruschka is a forest green matte shimmer.
